Ingredients

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2¼ teaspoons active dry yeast
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 6 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1½ teaspoons salt
  • 1 egg + 1 tablespoon milk (for egg wash)

Method

  1. Warm the milk to approximately 110°F, then sprinkle yeast and 1 tablespoon of sugar over it. Let sit for 5-7 minutes until foamy.
  2. Add remaining sugar, melted butter, eggs, and salt to the yeast mixture and whisk until smooth.
  3. Gradually add flour, one cup at a time, stirring until the dough pulls away from the bowl and is slightly sticky.
  4. Knead the dough on a floured surface for 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  5. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for 1-1.5 hours until doubled in size.
  6. Punch down the dough, divide into 16 pieces, and shape each into a ball.
  7. Place the rolls in a greased baking dish, cover, and let rise for another 30-45 minutes.
  8. Preheat the oven to 375°F and brush the tops of the rolls with egg wash.
  9. Bake for 18-22 minutes until golden brown and hollow-sounding when tapped.
  10. Brush with melted butter after baking.

Notes

Ensure yeast is fresh for best results. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days or freeze for longer storage.
