Ingredients

  • 1 pound Ziti (or Penne)
  • 1 pound Ground Italian Sausage or Beef
  • 24 oz Marinara Sauce
  • 15 oz Tomato Sauce
  • 15 oz Whole Milk Ricotta
  • 1 Egg
  • 3 cups Shredded Mozzarella
  • 1/2 cup Grated Parmesa
  • Fresh Basil
  • Garlic
  • Onio
  • Oregano

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit and grease a 9x13 inch baking dish.
  2. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil, add the ziti, and cook for two minutes less than package instructions. Drain and set aside.
  3. In a skillet, brown the ground sausage or beef over medium-high heat. Add diced onions and minced garlic, sauté until translucent, then drain excess fat.
  4. Add marinara and tomato sauce to the skillet, stir in oregano and basil, and let simmer for 10 minutes.
  5. In a bowl, combine ricotta, egg, half of the Parmesan, and a pinch of salt and pepper.
  6. Spread a thin layer of meat sauce in the baking dish, then toss cooked ziti with the ricotta mixture and two cups of meat sauce.
  7. Layer half of the pasta mixture in the dish, top with half of the remaining meat sauce and half of the mozzarella. Repeat layers.
  8. Sprinkle remaining Parmesan on top, cover with foil, and bake for 20 minutes. Remove foil and bake for another 15-20 minutes until bubbly.
  9. Let rest for 10 minutes before serving.
